Rebecca Atkinson

Rebecca Atkinson is a Freelance Journalist and Creative Disability Consultant for kids’ industries (toys and TV). She has experience in TV production, print journalism, online content and script writing. Rebecca has a specialist knowledge and interest in the media representation of disability.

For the BBC, Rebecca worked as an Assistant Producer on a range of factual and children’s programmes and later wrote for, and produced Soap, Teen and Music websites for BBC Online.

Rebecca has contributed articles and comment for publications including The Guardian, Vogue and Marie Claire, written three screenplays for Film 4 and a play for Soho Theatre, London. She is currently working on a work of narrative non-fiction and a collection of children’s stories dealing with issues of disability and diversity.

In 2015 Rebecca co-founded the online #toylikeme campaign calling for positive disability representation in toys.  She is available for creative consultation for toy brands, TV production companies and advertising looking to include positive representations of disability. Previous clients include Playmobil, Orchard Toys, Lucie London and RNIB.
